I went to California recently and saw a ton of birds and also lots of things that were animals but that were not birds. Here is photographic proof.
WEST COAST SQUIRRELS, HOMEBOIIII!
Douglas's Squirrel!
A crappy photo of a Belding's Ground Squirrel!
California Ground Squirrels were everywhere!
Western Gray Squirrel!
Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel!
Another chipmunk that I wasn't able to identify!
CREATURES FROM THE DEEP!
Woah Risso's Dolphins in Monterey Bay!
California Sea Lions in that selfsame bay!
A Brown (I think) Trout in the not-so-deep depths of a Yosemite stream!
GIANT KITTY CATS!
Holy cow dudes and dudettes I had only seen a Bobcat once in my life, and wasn't really prepared for how beautiful this creature was, just chilling under a tree in Andrew Molera State Park.
SLIME AND SCALES!
Biggest (only?) bummer of the trip was that I missed a beautiful California Mountain King Snake that a lot of the other folks saw. The only snake I connected with was this little guy, which I believe is a Mountain Garter Snake.
It was hunting these guys, two California Red-legged Frogs, which are a threatened species and live only in CA.
CREEPY CRAWLIES!
A beautiful (though the photo doesn't really capture it) Golden Hairstreak in Yosemite.
AHHHHHHHH! A tarantula!!!!
Are we safe? Oh thank god. Here's a very pretty Mormon Crescent.
And a California Sister, the most common butterfly on the trip. Glad to see them.
Bye, everyone, I love you.
